Pembangkang Tuduh Kerajaan Sekat Talian Telefon Semasa Beershit 3.0

Govt denies jamming calls during Bersih rally
By YUEN MEIKENG
KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has rubbished claims it jammed telecommunication lines during the Bersih 3.0 rally.
Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim told Fong Po Kuan (DAP - Batu Gajah) in a written reply in Parliament that the system could not handle the high usage during the April 28 rally.
Fong wanted to know why mobile phones were stalled during the gathering.
Rais said over 20,000 people had gathered in a small area during the rally near Merdeka Square that day.
"Cellular telecommunication systems generally do not have enough capacity to support such high number of telephone conversations and transfer of data, as what occurred during the Bersih 3.0 gathering," he said.
He said calls would fail if too many were made at once because the transmitting cells would not be able to handle them.
"When such cells are full, the system will reject calls and this results in the user being unable to make calls," he said.
