Wargakota Patut Ajar Demonstran Luar
AKHIRNYA:
'Anwar, Wong change their stance on Lynas'
On March 8, Anwar was quoted by Australia's Sydney Morning Herald as saying that he would fast-track an inquiry into the safety of Lynas's operations should the opposition take over as government in the coming general election.
"If Lynas can come up with a convincing argument that there is no risk to public safety and security, I will be the first to champion the plant there," he reportedly said, adding that he was not against development.
Himpunan Hijau chairman Wong Tack who was vehemently against the Lamp project, is now singing a different tune.
The DAP aligned activist now says that he agrees with Anwar's view on the project.
"If there is a transparent process, then any industrial company, including Lynas Corp, can come into the country.
"It is up to Lynas to prove why it should not be closed down," he said at a press conference.
Wong said that if Lamp complied with all safety procedures, then he had no problems with it operating.
He claimed that Lynas Corp had come into the country through the "back door" and obtained a temporary operating licence.
Wong's about-turn comes a month after he had threatened to burn down the rare-earth refinery if the newly-elected government failed to shut it down after the 13th General Election.
At the press conference, Wong also announced that he would be contesting for the Bentong parliamentary seat under the DAP banner. - NST
